From bad to not as bad. My semester review.

1.
This semester I grew in many different ways, one way is in my editing for video. I implemented many things that I've seen others do in videos like adding pictures, old video snippets, and giving a tone for the story. I also learned how to use many different styles of editing a video and ways to make it look more visually appealing. I spent a significant amount of time editing the light and making it all look the same.

In this story I made about jessie I went through hundreds even possibly thousands of pictures to find the select few that fit the story well. Many of these pictures came at times when she was talking about her and her sister, along with her early life growing up.

Also while filming this video in the different locations I would think of many different shots that would work well in a certain situation. I thought about what shots I already had and how then could compliment each other. The best way to summarize this would be the Six Shot System that I learned in the first week.

The jessie story was the climax of my video making this semester, I had many other video news packages, one of them was my first major video that went on our ONW NOW show on Sept. 17. This story took me awhile to come up with an idea for the main conflict but in knew that it should be about the senior on the team.

2.

Secondly I thought that my written stories have improved since last year. last year I covered the wrestling program here at ONW and wrote many stories about it along with one video. I only wrote a few stories on the gymnastics program but I thought I did an adequate job.

On my blog I've written a few stories but I never got around to posting them on the website. One of these stories in my post "Pre-State 2014". this story was mainly a recap of the season as awhile and what the team is looking forward to and how they may preform.

3.

During the semester I was assigned to cover the gymnastics sport for my SID class, while it washing as exiting as football may be I still learned a lot through the experience.

I learned how to film steadily, gain access to the meets and games on the ground level, and film everything that would would possibly need for the package. I feel that I can use this knowledge to my advantage when I take on my next challenge in cover Bowling.

Onward and Upward:

1. My first goal for the next semester is to have a recap video with a written story with it at least every other week, I would prefer ever week.

2. My second goal is to make at least 2 quality stories and post multiple written stories to the ONW wed site.

The Future of Storytelling and Technology

In the article Digital Innovation and the Future of Storytelling, the main idea was about how story telling has evolved and changed throughout time and continues to change based on the new technology platforms.

The main point and argument of the story is that companies need to change how the present their "channels" or "programs", and how Netflix sees this and knows that its the people they are trying to entertain and tell the stories to, if the people do not get the entertainment that they want from one place then they will go elsewhere for said entertainment. The author presents this information and opinion clearly and reliably because he is in the industry and has been for awhile.

I believe that the argument they portray is conclusive and inline with their evidence, the author talks about the new and improved ways companies portray their stories and how they have innovated the face of entertainment. I think that the evidence is very persuasive because of how successful that Netflix has been.

Some of my thought while reading this article and watching the video that was attached was that Spacy was correct in everything that he was saying, that people want entertainment that they may not be able go get in conventual ways, so Netflix was born and in doing so changed the way that people get their entertainment and that if other companies don't change soon then they could be in trouble. Also with all of new technologies been invented its an exciting time to live and that the possibilities are endless with what could come next.

On this video I tried to do some new things while editing, I have never inserted any pictures into a video before and on this one there were quite a few. I also Cropped using the Ken Burns option on a couple of them. I think that this was an ok video and that there were a few things I could have done differently. One of the struggles I had was figuring out the sequence of the story but after changing it multiple time i think i got in in a good order.

Pre-State 2014

This Saturday the ONW gymnastics team is competing for the state championship at Shawnee Mission West. The team is ranked third in their league and has high hopes for this coming meet.

The team is lead by Juniors Jessie Payne and Carly Stroup. Both gymnasts coming out strong and pulling through this last stretch of the season despite injuries.

Payne is hoping to duplicate her last season, state individual championship. She’s been strong on bars and vault all season long and is hoping that those two events can lead her to victory.

The team however cannot survive just on these two girls, however, Senior Carissa Winters and Freshman Emily Copeland are both preparing to come out strong and preform magnificently to get their team to a high finish.

The teams biggest threat right now is OE, their team has almost twenty girls on it giving them an advantage over the ONW ravens who only have four athletes.

Come out and support your fellow ravens at eleven o’clock on Saturday.
